9/6/15 An Amazing Story of Survival. The detonation of a large roadside bomb near Baghdad on May 3, 2005, caused enough damage to Army Sgt. Robert Bartlett’s body to cost him his life—and it did, at least temporarily.

Bartlett was providing route security with 1st Battalion, 64th Armor in the 3rd Infantry Division’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team near Baghdad when an armor-piercing bomb behind a road barrier was remotely detonated. “It blew through my vehicle and basically cut my face in half and took my gunner’s legs and took the top of my truck commander’s head off, and then went out the other side of the vehicle and kept on going,” he said. “I think they said it was a 40-pounder, [but] I can’t be for certain on that.”

What he is certain of is that the bomb contained ball bearings that caused severe trauma to his hands and chest.

“My gunner and I were just embracing each other, because we thought we were about to die and didn’t know who else was hit,” Bartlett said. “I’d lost sight in my left eye and my right eye was going in and out of vision, [and] I couldn’t do anything with my hands. Obviously, I had a head trauma, and I was losing air with every breath.” http://www.army.mil/article/14001/

9/13/15 Bargain Basement War Heroes. Those who served in the U.S. Merchant Marine have struggled for years to obtain veteran status and even today many are still fighting for recognition. But when you compare casualty rate percentages to other services in World War II, the Merchant Marine holds the highest.

The Merchant Marine played an important role and Bernard F. Flynn wanted his grandchildren and anyone who would listen to know. Flynn combined his many stories of being a mariner in World War II among other controversial topics including Kennedy’s assassination, Communism and a second chance at love, in his new book “Bargain Basement War Heroes.”

Flynn’s book emphasizes the importance of passing along stories from generation to generation. After sharing in this grandpa’s life experiences, you’ll feel inspired to learn your own grandparent’s stories.

Join us this week on Veterans Radio as we talk with Bernard Flynn’s grandson, Brian Cronin. Mr. Flynn passed away before his book was published. And…

9/27/15 Ft. McClellan—Home of the Poisoned Patriots. What we have here, is a failure to communicate. Specifically, the Federal Government and the Veterans Administration are refusing to tell the veterans of Ft. McClellan, Alabama, home to the former Military Police training school, Chemical Corp, the Women’s Army Corp and many other training schools used by all branches of America’s military, that they have been exposed to toxic chemicals. Please take a moment to think about that. People were exposed to dangerous chemicals that are known to cause serious health conditions to include cancer, endocrine disorders, autoimmune disease, neurological problems, and diabetes, but the government is refusing to inform them even though the facts are undisputed.

We are not just referring to the chemical spills from the chemical school there, although they contributed to the problem too. The veterans and their families were exposed to a toxic soup of chemicals from years and years of dumping, improper containment, and spills of dangerous toxic chemicals from Monsanto (think PCB’s, Dioxins, Roundup weed killer, Agent Orange, and genetically modified food) which turned Ft. McClellan and the neighboring town of Anniston into a disease and death causing toxic cesspool.  In short, if you were stationed at Ft. McClellan between 1933 and 1999, you were exposed to these chemicals and possibly ionizing radiation if you were at the firing range. The only question is how it will affect you.

Join host Jim Fausone and his guest Veterans Activist Sue Frasier. Sue, who was stationed at Ft. McClellan in 1970, has been waging a very difficult uphill battle with the Department of Veterans Affairs to get those veterans who went through Ft. McClellan the benefits they deserve.  Don’t miss this very important program. Especially if you spent any time at Ft. McClellan.
