John D. Dingell VA Medical Center Healthcare Inspection Summarized

Attorney Deanne Bonner Simpson has practiced law for 15 years. She lives in South Lyon, MI and her husband is a 30-year Michigan Army National Guard member.

Deanne will talk about the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center’s latest healthcare inspection, as reported in the link below. This Office of Inspector General (OIG) Comprehensive Healthcare Inspection Program report provides a focused evaluation of the quality of care delivered in the inpatient and outpatient settings of the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center in Detroit, which includes multiple outpatient clinics in Michigan. The inspection covers key clinical and administrative processes associated with promoting quality care.

In summary, the report was positive and did not find any significant areas of concern.

Ralph Staunton is our June 2021 winner!  

Joining the US Army in 1969, Ralph Staunton quickly became a SGT and Instructor at the Infantry School at Ft Benning teaching primarily all Mortar skill levels and Systems to OCS and AIT classes and also working on Experimental equipment and Combat Tactics. Wasn’t long before he was selected for Warrant Officer Helicopter Flight Training leading to a Combat tour with 134th Assault Helicopter Company in II Corps, Vietnam getting shot down 3 times, and yes, Agent Orange spray missions.

Coming out of Vietnam, Ralph was sent to Special Assignment and training at Homestead AFB, and then moved to the Cold War in Europe. Ralph was assigned to the SETAF General Staff 6th AVN Detachment in Vicenza, Italy which also included Extreme High Altitude Helicopter Training and support by TWA. 6th AVN was responsible for moving battlefield Nuclear weapons and VIP movements in the ALPS, Italy, Greece, and Turkey and the Med area. This period included the 1973 US Military DEFCON 3 during the Yom Kippur War, and problems during the 1974 Greek/Turkish War over Cyprus. Ralph flew VIPs including Donald Rumsfeld, Alexander Haig, Jacob Javits, and many more.

In the mid ‘70s, Ralph returned to CONUS as DS Support Maintenance Officer for 335th AHC Cowboys at Ft Riley, KS. Surety qualified; Ralph was also a charter member of NEST for, then, Air Support Zone 5 and some other secondary assignments from FORSCOM. After a brief coordination with Engineering staff at Edwards AFB, Ralph also test flew another experimental Helicopter, this time for Bell Ft Worth.

In 1980, CWO Ralph Staunton ended a short but remarkable career as he was encountering increasing medical damage from Agent Orange.
